The official opening of Te Puna Creative Hub marked with a special ceremony in Henderson, West Auckland, on Wednesday 14th May, 2025. The event began with a traditional Māori blessing and the unveiling of the tōkā — a symbolic stone representing strength, grounding, and connection to place.
Te Puna Creative Hub is the latest addition to the Te Puna Innovation Quarter, a growing precinct designed to foster the development of New Zealand’s creative industries. The quarter is already home to Auckland Film Studios, where major international productions such as The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Legend of the Seeker, The Chronicles of Narnia, Sweet Tooth, and Power Rangers: Ninja Storm have been filmed.

Also part of the innovation quarter is the Corban Estate Arts Centre, a long-standing community arts hub situated on the historic grounds of the former Corban Estate Winery.
The Te Puna Innovation Quarter has been developed to support professionals and organisations across a wide range of creative disciplines, including video games, screen production, creative technology, music, visual arts, and performing arts. With state-of-the-art facilities and strong industry partnerships, the hub is set to become a cornerstone for innovation and collaboration in New Zealand’s creative economy.
Inside Te Puna Creative Hub: Purpose-Built for Innovation
The future-ready facility features Kōmanawa, a 159-seat digital theatre, and Takawai, a 466sqm black box studio, both designed for high-impact creative work. The hub offers industry office spaces – already established on premise are tenants Click Studios and Crescendo Trust – a Creative Hub Boardroom for hire and delicious eats at The Grounds restaurant with catering and bar for events.
The open studio event offered attendees an inside look at Te Puna Creative Hub’s facilities, alongside presentations and discussions outlining the vision for its future. The event served as an important platform for engaging the local creative community, inviting feedback to help shape a space that meets industry needs and supports the ongoing growth of West Auckland’s creative sector.
